Pembroke College Cambridge

Visiting the College

Visitors are welcome to walk round the grounds of Pembroke and to visit the Chapel if there is no service taking place; the interiors of other College building, including the Library, are private.

The College is generally open every day, but is closed to visitors during the main exam period (mid May to mid June) and can be closed at other times for events, if you are traveling far you should check in advance.  Visitors to the College are asked to respect the College and to remember that it is a place of study.

Groups wishing to tour the College should visit or contact the Porter's lodge to make a booking as the number of groups on site at any time is limited. Group visits may take place from 10am to 5pm and groups are asked to leave by 5.30pm.

Anyone wishing to film in the College is asked to contact the Bursar’s Office to make arrangements.

By Train

  • Cambridge has frequent and fast connections to London King's Cross and somewhat slower links to London Liverpool Street.
  • Links to the north are via Ely and Peterborough.
  • You can walk to Pembroke from the rail station in about 30 minutes. Go straight ahead from the station entrance for about 400m. Bear right at the war memorial, then go straight ahead for about 1500m. Turn down the street opposite the pillared facade, which is Downing Street. Walk the 400m to the end (Downing Street turns into Pembroke Street half-way down). The entrance to Pembroke College is just round the corner to your left.
  • The Universal Bus service connects the railway station to the College.

  • Cambridge lies 60 miles (100 km) north of London. Access is via the M11 from the south, the A14 from east and west and the A1(M)/A14 from the north.
  • Cambridge is at heart a small medieval city and is thus often congested. It is better to avoid this and the high cost and difficulty of parking by using the Park and Ride service.
  • No parking is available in college for visitors.
